CLE: 1.0

Objectives:  The presentation will cover the following topics: Why heroin addiction and its demographic is different.  The changing path leading to heroin addiction. Why recovery from addiction is so difficult, fear of consequences and near death experiences are not enough. Our most serious addiction yet results in serious crime to feed it.  We will discuss how the heroin explosion has undercut the goals of HB 463 by reducing pretrial release and killing deferred prosecution programs.  Is heroin addiction an argument against probation?  We will discuss defending a possession case, defense strategies, jury selection and getting a favorable disposition that will allow clients to succeed.
