CLE: 1.00

Objectives: Four percent (4%) of all cases handled by the Department of Public Advocacy are resolved by trial. In the remaining cases, plea negotiations and a strong understanding of sentencing law is essential to achieve the best outcome for our clients. During this session, you will learn about issues surrounding sentencing law such as mandatory consecutive sentences, Persistent Felony Offender (PFO), Violent Offender status and double enhancements. We will also touch on sentencing advocacy in the trial setting, maintaining control over the Presentence Investigation Report (PSI) and the Postincarceration Supervision period.
